Evidence That Intelligence Is Relational
A recent study of 667 people solving complex reasoning problems compared humans working alone, AI alone, and human+AI teams.
The results: human+AI teams improved accuracy by up to 29 percentage points over humans working alone—especially when people actively modeled the AI’s perspective, a capability the authors describe using “Theory of Mind.”
The study also shows that collaborative ability with AI is a distinct trait, not just “being smart.” It depends on how people interact with AI systems, not just which model they use.
In other words, Relational Intelligence isn’t just a trait—it’s a skill you can train.
